Second Show (2012) Malayalam Movie Review

Taking after his superstar father Mammoty, Dulkar Salman proved his talent through his debut film Second show. The much awaited new generation film which is directed by Srinath Rajendran have had its little imperfections, but it does that little magic that movies have been doing time and again to keep us going back to them. Srinath Rajendran who was the assistant of Jayaraj, had done justice to his debut film. The way he portrays the life in this film is really appreciable. Debutant Vinu Vishwalal has penned the screenplay and dialogues. One point worth mentioning is that most of the crew members in this movie are debutants. Although young talents can be seen throughout the film, lack of experience made the film not a perfect film.

Dulqur plays the role of an underworld don. The film is a typical new generation film with quotation as a theme. The film deals with incidents happening in the dark face of a city in which quotation teams fighting each other for their benefits. Although this is an old fashioned theme, the way of presentation is quite charming and refreshing. The story starts with the gangster leader Lalu[Hari] and team having a clash with the another top gang leader of the city,Vishnubadran. Hari starts his own moves against Vishnubadran. Vishnubadran plans his ways to demolish Hari.

Dulqur Salman is a promising actor who got a perfect start in this movie. Gauthami Nair who stands opposite to Dulqur also gave a positive and refreshing performance. We can expect more from these youngsters. Due to the lack of experience, something lacked in the delivery of dialogues and in action scenes also. Rest of the cast tried their level best to do justice to their role. Baburaj has to be appreciated for his comedy which are clicked at right time.

Music done by Nikhil Rajan and Avial were judged to be average whereas the background music which is prominent throughout the film has to be appreciated. Lack of experience can be clearly seen in the technical side of the movie. Camera which is done by Pappu was excellent in the second half, but first half explicitly exposed his inexperience with some shaky shots. Editing is done by Praveen K L. The pillar of the movie is the screenplay which is done by Vinu Vishwalal who has to be appreciated for the way of presenting a usual old fashioned story in a refreshing way.

Verdict

Although the storyline was old fashioned, the way of presentation never let you bored. Since new comers there will be certain negatives, but all of them are Promising actors of the future. The movie emphasize the need and importance of friendship also. Considering the comedy, good dialogues and screen presence of Dulqur Salman, the film is worth for an one time watch.
